Dr. N. Murugesan is a highly respected Nephrologist in Puducherry and the visionary Founder and Chairman of East Coast Hospitals, one of the region’s earliest and most trusted tertiary care institutions. With over three decades of clinical, academic, and leadership experience, he has played a transformative role in advancing kidney care, dialysis, transplantation, and preventive medicine in Puducherry and neighbouring districts of Tamil Nadu.
Medical Education & Clinical Excellence
Dr. Murugesan completed his MD in General Medicine from Coimbatore Medical College and pursued DNB in Nephrology under the mentorship of Padma Vibhushan Dr. M.K. Mani at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai. He later became the Founding Nephrologist of the Department of Nephrology and Transplant Services at Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital, Puducherry, where he led the region’s first transplant team.
Founder of East Coast Hospitals – A Tertiary Care Pioneer
Recognising the urgent need for quality private tertiary healthcare in Puducherry, Dr. Murugesan established East Coast Hospitals in the 1990s. Under his leadership, the hospital introduced several medical firsts in the region, including:

Dr. Murugesan is widely recognized for his groundbreaking work in preventive healthcare, particularly in the areas of hypertension, diabetes, insulin resistance, and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). He has successfully developed and implemented innovative strategies focusing on:
- Hypertension prevention through ultra-low sodium, high-potassium alkaline salt formulations
- Diabetes reversal and management by targeting insulin resistance rather than insulin deficiency.
- Reducing the incidence of cardiovascular disease, stroke, obesity, and renal failure
